Halloween Barn Hop & BBQ

Barn

Just a few short weeks ago, Broadway & Omega threw a Halloween Barn Hop & BBQ to celebrate the start of the fall. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday, so it was no surprise that over 150 of our team mates came out to Hopcott’s Farm to join us in the festivities! Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who helped put on this event, and to Victaulic for your generous donation to benefit Global Neighbors Canada! We raised over $1,300 at this event alone which will directly fund the build of a new dorm for children in Myanam – which is under construction right now.

We had a great time sporting our Halloween costumes, carving pumpkins for prizes, roasting marshmallows, and enjoying some BBQ in the sun for a good cause. Pictured below: Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask who won best costume, with close runners up: bacon and egg, and Ratatouille’s chef and mouse duo.

How does Global Neighbors operate? The organization works with their team of volunteer board members (100% unpaid volunteers) who coordinate and facilitate the construction process with their only staff member in Mae Sot, Thailand. They hire local Burmese community members in Myanmar and Thailand, pay them fair wages and buy construction materials locally so that projects are built by the community, for the community. See below progress pictures for the construction of the dorm already underway!

Working Together as a Community

All materials are sourced in Thailand and transported to Myanmar across the river in these small canoe-type boats.
