Today is National Tradesmen Day

Last year, 192,500 skilled tradespeople made up nearly 10% of British Columbia’s total workforce.

Everyday, tradespeople keep our businesses, homes, city infrastructure, roads, water systems, and power grids running flawlessly.

On third Friday of September, we honor the men and women whose technical skills and hard work build our society. Today is National Tradesmen Day, a day dedicated to the individuals who keep our industries running strong. Today, we honor the tradespeople of Omega Mechanical.

“The best part of being a tradesman is working with all different types of people, in all different types of places. I hear that a lot… and it’s definitely true. I enjoy having a career that is high-energy, where I am constantly moving around and doing things.”

“Everyone has plumbing…and everyone needs a plumber! I enjoy having a career with purpose – we truly are essential workers. I take pride in having useful skills that can be applied to create solutions for others.

I also like the people. We all come from different walks of life, but that doesn’t stop us from being friends outside of work.”

CHARLIE

CHRIS

PROJECT MANAGER, RED SEAL PLUMBER

“There is a unique sense of accomplishment at the end of a hard day’s work when you can physically see the fruit of your labor in front of your eyes. In the trades, we are constructing buildings that will be monuments in our cities for years to come.  It’s a great opportunity to work with such great like-minded individuals… but also people from many different walks of life. I’m glad I have had the opportunity to grow with one of the coolest companies around, Broadway-Omega.”

ANDY

SITE LEAD, RED SEAL PLUMBER

“As a tradesman I’m always working with a stable (awesome) income. No downtime, nothing to worry about. It doesn’t get much better than that!”

SIMON

“The best thing about trades?

It isn’t boring. There’s always something new to see; someone new to meet. Worksites can look completely different over night. My trade has given me a dynamic, engaging career where I can work hard to achieve the things I want.”

“It is truly rewarding to work as a team towards a single goal – the final project. I value the opportunity to engage with many kinds of people on a day-to-day basis.  Alongside being part of this diverse community, I am always developing personally… new goals and interests. I love that about the job – 4th year and I’m still learning new skills on the job everyday.”
